INTRODUCTION !
Combat is a structured process requiring: clarity, realism, and fairness. When battling, it is a turn by turn system, but one must understand the capabilities and time within each post granted. Firstly, it is important that the rpers know that each turn is no longer than six seconds in real time[in close combat, that time can shift to mere seconds, but we’ll allow you to be the judge of that]. This means that one would only be capable of one, two at the most, jutsu per turn; no matter their skill level. Also put into perspective that realistically, a Jonin’s ability to create more handseals within the same time frame is granted. With that said, one at such a level may be capable of three jutsu with a limited amount of handseals. Remember that you cannot avoid everything, and god-modding is frowned upon[dealt with at the first sign]. Be descriptive in your battles, because if you forget to mention the slightest thing, it could be the end for your character.
UNDERSTANDING !
I shall present you with an example of what to do, and what not to do. Understand that due to this being an example, I will not go into a full page length post:
Here is what not to do. This is a pure example of God-modding and is not tolerated in every word. Firstly, Sasuke god-modded the eye contact required from the opponent. Rather than stating something more along the lines of: “Sasuke looks towards the opponents direction, awaiting eye contact by which he would create the genjutsu.”, he chose to force the opponent into looking into his eyes which is a no-no. Not only this, but he disregarded that the fact that though the enemy may be caught in a Genjutsu, it doesn’t stop his reaction time or capability of speaking. Since Sasuke chose to simply kill the opponent, not granting the opponent the opportunity to react, this is also cheating.Post 1:
Sasuke walks into the battle ring. He looks at his opponent, then uses his Sharingan and traps him into an eye triggered genjutsu, thus rendering the enemy powerless. Then, Sasuke walks up to him, slits his neck, and watches him die.Post 2:
“Opponent” is dead.
So, to avoid such god-modding, you must post in future tense at all times when initiating an attack, and present tense when defending yourself. The lesson in this first example is, “Do not god-mod or decide actions and reactions for your opponent.” The realistic way to lead the opponent to the assumption that there is no getting out of a move is through stating pure fact that delegates such an end. Here is a second example, with the problems in the first post fixed, but also some additional problems.
Now, the first post made by Sasuke is perfect. He not only made his action, refuse to god-mod, but he also stated a reasonable explanation why such an action would be legit. The problem now lies with the “Opponent” whose post is possibly just as bad as Sasuke’s first post in example number one. Genjutsu is a complicated thing, and just because you saw Shikamaru get out of it by simply breaking his finger, some genjutsu are more powerful and that should be taken into again. At the same time, a small on the face would realistically be enough to allow one freedom from the genjutsu. The really problem with genjutsu evasion is the fact that he implied he knew this was a genjutsu.Post 1:
Sasuke walks into the battle ring. He looks at his opponent, his eyes remaining focused upon him awaiting for eye contact to be made. “You wont beat me. I’m fueled by my hate.” Even at the slightest glance of his eyes, which is something most tend to do on command when approaching a foe, would lead the opponent into a spiral of deceit; genjutsu. Also due to the fact the opponent does not know of his bloodline nor that he has the Sharingan, such an occurrence would be near impossible to sense before it was too late. What would his opponent do?Post 2:
“Opponent” gazed in Sasuke’s direction, since there was no sensible reason for him not to. It was then that he felt himself drawn into the blood red eyes of the Uchiha. He could not help but stand still as he stared into the opponents eyes. He knew this was a genjutsu, so he had to get out of it. He rapped his hand around his opposing fingers and snapped them, the bone crushing and causing a massive amount of pain. A few seconds later, he could see everything around him as it normally was. Then, he placed his hands together despite his battered hands, and begin a string of handseals. This created a “jutsu” to fly towards Sasuke. Afterwards, he then made another string of handseals and did a second set of handseals that causes a large rock to fall over Sasuke. Finally, he jumps into the air with his hands locked together for one more handseal that would hopefully end this fight.
There are only a few ways to know this is a genjutsu, and those are: knowing the Sharingan’s ability to create eye illusions, being caught in an illusion exactly or quite similar to this before, or being in the genjutsu for a long enough period of time to make up your mind that this is indeed all fake. Had the first reason been known, the “opponent” would have never been caught in the first place. Had the second reason been put into account, that still wouldn’t justify or lead the mind to automatically reject the genjutsu because the mind over-powers everything in a persons body. Because a genjutsu is so powerful that it can trick the senses, it is only possible one be able to get out of it through pain, some other sense of reality(the stronger the genjutsu, the more pain). As for the third reason, a decent amount of time within a genjutsu is enough to justify the knowledge and the ability to use pain as a mechanism to free one’s self. Without either three of those reasons being apart of the occasion, the action would be considered meta-gaming, which is the use of outside information your character would not know, even though you yourself know what the other person is doing.
The second problem with the opponent’s post is that despite the pain from breaking his fingers, he is capable of doing handseals. That is a false judgment, and so like that, any damage inflicted on a person’s body part would most likely lower that part’s ability to do things. Meaning, if someone were to get stabbed in the leg, the person would most likely limp, incapable of running really fast unless it’s through pure dedication and relentlessness. Even still, that would not disregard the fact that this would hurt like hell. Being realistic when doing certain things, and understand that no matter how fantasy bound Naruto is, it doesn’t stop one from actually feeling pain. The final problem with this post is that, as stated in the beginning of this thread, the opponent has a set limit of two jutsu, and possibly three if each jutsu is no more than three handseals each. Then again, even if this three jutsu rule were allowed, one must take into account the time interval between each jutsu, as well as the leap into the air which definitely surpasses six seconds. Always remember that time in the key to a realistic post, and don’t over do a post with a grip of techniques/reactions.
Now, another problem often seen in battling is someone attempting to be subtle about their moves, but fail to be fair. If you wish to be subtle, either use some word play to lead a person to diverse from the plot, or simply leave small hints in your post that can be looked at by a staff member and analyzed if the need arises. Basically, "out of sight, out of mind". If someone is incapable of even knowing what is to come, but the required actions to create such an outcome are done by the user, one does not have to state what it is until it has been revealed. Meaning, if someone were hiding in a tree, undetected by the opponent, they are free to create a fake Bunshin to go out into the field without even making it 100% clear it is a clone as long as it is stated handseals were created before hand, hints are given throughout the rest of the posts, and the clone doesn't do anything abnormal to its capabilities. With this said, though we will look at your battle threads, we expect you to settle these disagreements civil, and preferably through pm's; private message. If things get out of hand, the thread will be locked and the final judgment will be determined by a staff member.
Now, don't think that just because there are strict rules on battles, that one cannot die from a one hit kill. It is very possible if the attack possesses the strength to do so, and the opponent is incapable of defending himself[if the opponent is knocked unconscious, or stuck in the ground, etc.] Know that such a move can be made at any time if the situation allows it. We understand that a lot of people may be too fearful to fight a character, and though in a realistic world we cannot stop such things, we allow you to make a thread “Death Disabled” only if it is your thread. Make sure to place it either in the title, or in your first post. If there is no Death Disabled, you are liable to get killed. If you follow all of the rules above, you will be able to complete and hopefully defeat your opponent in a great battle.
KEY POINTS !
- One to Two jutsu per post. Three if your Jonin level, or if each jutsu requires only a few handseals.
- Always speak in past tense about things you plan to do.
- Each post is normally six seconds during a battle, and less if the battle is close combat.
- There is such thing as a one hit kills if the battle justifies it.
- God-modding is against the rules and not tolerated.
- Meta-gaming is against the rules and not tolerated.
- Add Death Disabled in the title or first post of the thread if you wish to avoid getting killed.
